VERY RARE CASED SMITH & WESSON REVOLVING RIFLE. Cal. 320 S&W. SN 20. Fine, early revolving rifle with 18″ keyhole bbl, tiny clamped-on Rocky Mountain style front sight and 2-position flip rear sight. It has dark marbled red & black hard rubber tiny forearm with S&W shield logo with matching 2-pc S&W logo diamond checkered grips. It is accompanied by an orig buttstock with attaching iron and checkered hard rubber buttplate with S&W shield logo. The wood is very highly figured American walnut. It is accompanied by its orig compartmented Moroccan leather hinged lid case with brass corners and leather carrying handle. The interior is lined with faded felt, compartmented for the revolver, the stock and a box of ammunition. It is further accompanied by an orig carbine tang sight which screws into the top of the butt stock iron. Also included is a tiny tube front sight, missing its pin. It also has a nickeled oiler and a hickory wiping rod with brass tip. Lastly it is accompanied by a full, sealed box of UMC cartridges. The box is Kraft colored body with Kraft colored label and band with black printing and a picture of a cartridge on top, plus one spare round. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 92-93% strong orig blue with some light flaking and a spot or two of light rust. Cylinder retains 96-97% strong orig blue, bright in the flutes, dull on the outer diameter. Frame retains about 75% orig blue, flaked to light patina mixed with bright blue. Grip frame retains dull strong orig blue. Hammer retains most of its orig case colors, brilliant on the sides and back, turned silver on the top. Trigger guard retains 25-30% bright case colors on the thick part of the web with the balance turned gray/brown. Forearm and grips are extremely fine with the forearm showing moderate wear and the grips light wear. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. Stock iron retains 70-75% glossy blue with some light flaking and minor surface rust. Wood is sound with a scratch or two on the right side with minor handling & use marks elsewhere and retains most of its fine varnish finish. Buttplate shows light wear and is fine. Tang sight retains virtually all of its bright niter blue. Box of cartridges is extremely fine with very light soil. Little globe sight retains virtually all of its bright niter blue on the center band. Case is worn and shows hard use with a nearly detached lid with worn edges, some slight water damage on the lid, dry rotted handle and missing its straps.
