HARRY (Henry) CHASE (American, 1853-1889) SURVIVING THE WRECK. Large oil on canvas nautical scene shows a large lifeboat filled with people escaping their wrecked and doomed ship which can be seen in the distance floundering. They have survived a fierce storm which is breaking up with a patch of blue sky & sunlight lighting the central part of the scene. Signed lower left and dated “1881”. Housed in an antique gilt wood frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 24″ x 42-1/4″. CONDITION: Relined with inpainting, very good. 9-24351 (12,000-18,000)
