WILLIAM EDWARD NORTON (American, 1843-1916) CRASHING SURF. Oil on canvas seascape shows a large wave crashing onto coastal rock with seagulls above. Gray cloud sky indicating the surf is being raised by the oncoming storm. Signed lower left. Housed in a good carved wood gilt period frame which appears to be original. SIZE: 20″ x 24″. CONDITION: Wax relining, minor inpainting, fine craquelure, two small areas of paint loss in sky. 9-24933 (1,000-1,500)
