SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1861 RIFLED MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. 58. NSN. 40” part oct bbl. Standard Springfield markings in front of hammer with “1862” at tail of lockplate and “1863” date on top of bbl. “V / P / eagle head” acceptance marks on left quarter flat of bbl and “N.J” on left flat. An illegible cartouche is stamped on left flat of stock. 18-1/2” bayonet is marked “US” at base. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Gray patina overall and some remaining brightness on lock. Bayonet has many spots of rust staining and some light pitting. Stock has normal handling marks with some battering on left side. Mechanically fine. Wm.
