AFTER JOHN JAMES AUDUBON (American, 1785-1851) “TROPIC BIRD, PHAETON ATHEREUS, LINN, MALE 1. FEMALE 2”. Hand colored with watercolor print from the Double-Elephant folio, paper watermark “J. Whatman 1835”. Large print shows black and white birds with duck type feet, yellow bill and long tail. Above the image is written “No. 53 Plate CCLXII”. Housed in a simple black frame with white matte. SIZE: Margins top 3-3/4”; bottom 2-3/4”. Left 4”; right 3-3/4”. SIGHT SIZE: Inside of matte is 20-1/4” x 28”. CONDITION: Some light toning, very good. A restoration report is included which indicates a cleaning and some repaired tears which are not evident in the viewable area. Not examined out of frame. 9-71237 (2,000-4,000)
