5¢ MILLS “HORSEHEAD BONUS” SLOT MACHINE. Another gimmick created with great ingenuity by those at the Mills factory during the 1930’s. All too often a player would become discouraged with a machine. The idea behind this machine was to spell “BONUS”, there were 20 symbols on the first reel, five of which contained the letters “B-O-N-U-S”. If one were to get the letters of the word “BONUS” in succession, he would be rewarded with 18 coins once he finally got the last letter “S”. One can only imagine walking up to the machine and seeing the letters “B-O-N-U-” in place, just waiting for the “S” to appear. Undoubtedly, many a player was drawn in to spend countless coins in order to get that final “S”. The aluminum castings feature a horse’s head and have been finely restored to original colors, as well as the wood cabinetry to its original luster. Machine comes with a finely crafted oak stand with polished aluminum legs and owl adorning front door. SIZE: 16″ x 16″ x 25″. CONDITION: Overall excellent restored condition, “BONUS” flags have been repainted, mechanism is complete and functional but would benefit from a cleaning (oily and dirty). 1-8707 JL (1,500-2,500)
