*EXTREMELY RARE, POSSIBLY ONE OF A KIND, SMITH & WESSON MODEL 19-3 DA REVOLVER. Cal. 357 Mag. SN 7K22611. Standard Model 19 with 4″ bbl, ramp front sight, checkered silver medallion magnum grips. The unusual feature is the optical sight mounted to the top of the frame. It fits on a custom built base that is machined to fit the normal adjustable rear sight groove in the top strap. It is described as an Armenson type occluded optic sight. It has the same features as the current family of Red Dot sights in that simply looking through it gives one a white or gold colored circle & crosshair on a green background without the use of batteries. It has a dbl tube each about 5/8″ diameter made of an alloy material that has a plum colored finish. Its orig blue & silver 2-pc Bangor-Punta box that is marked in ink “with optical sights” accompanies it. A Smith & Wesson Factory letter identifying this revolver and stating that it was shipped May 10, 1976 to Conner & Lohr Co., Minneapolis, Minnesota, also accompanies it. The letter goes on that it was built as “a special sample built for our manufacturing reps who service the mid-west”. This revolver featured an optical sight designed by a Michigan optometrist. They were used to test the practicability and possible sales potential. The test determined that it was not marketable.” CONDITION: Very fine. Revolver & sight retain 95-96% bright orig blue with light muzzle wear. Grips are sound with a few minor handling & use marks and a small chip on the right edge. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. Box is fine. 4-53884 JR518 (2,000-3,000)
