GERMAN BAROQUE STYLE MUSICAL TALL CASE CLOCK. Mid-20th century. This wonderful musical clock, although probably of German manufacture, is in the Dutch Rococo style. The scrolled molded bonnet, the frieze with rocaille leaftip carving centering a leafy crest surmounted by a sarcophagal pediment, mounted with a central figure of Atlas flanked by angels with trumpets. The astragal door flanked by engaged columns with brass capitals and bases, opening to a beautifully rendered brass face with paint-decorated elliptical curved diorama, surmounted by a conforming plate enumerating six possible musical choices. The silvered dial within four cast-brass filigree spandrels, centering three calendar apertures depicting the day, the date, and the month. Also with a subsidiary seconds dial, the center applied with a name plaque inscribed in script: “Otto Berner Stuttgart”. The movement fitted with a large drum, the comb joined to hammers and a rack of fifteen bells. Two additional larger bells between the cylinder and the dial. The unmarked movement of superior quality. The throat with canted corners and leafy carved corbels centering a cartouche-shaped molded door with cast-bronze rocaille mount above a bombe box base on claw and ball feet. Clock accompanied by three carved figures, door key, winder,and three weights. SIZE: 9’3-1/2″ h. x 13-1/2″ throat w. x 14″ d.
