TWO EARLY TRANSFERWARE PITCHERS. 1) 5-1/2” h canary yellow jug with black transfers. One shows a woman seated with balance scale looking out at ships and the other side shows a dog and chicken outside a farm. Chips on the spout and hairlines to the body. 2) 6-1/2” luster jug. Purple transfer on buff background. One side having a ship with a chain border with names. Other side with spread eagle holding “E Pluribus Unum” banner with chain of names. Names represent Naval heroes. Pictured on page 139 of “Anglo-American Ceramics” by Arman. Extensively repaired and discolored. PROVENANCE: From a Downeast, Maine Collection.
