*1903 SPRINGFIELD NATIONAL MATCH RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 1229031. 24” bbl dated “6-21”. This is a first year production Springfield 1903 National Match rifle. The 1921 National Matches do not have a star gauging on muzzle but instead have inspector’s marks & star gauge numbers under wood in front of sight collar. This rifle has inspection number “3341” 1-1/2” in front of collar & inspection “AV” about 2” ahead of sight collar on right side. Both marks are underneath wood. Rifle has a Lyman 48 receiver sight which was to have been added at some later date as well as a polished bolt assembly which is not numbered. Leaf sight is not present. CONDITION: Rifle is in outstanding condition for a first year National Match retaining better than 90% of orig green Parkerizing to receiver. Bbl assembly is also in better than 90% condition with any significant wear being from a sight cover that is no longer present. Wood is in very good condition with sharp edges on finger grooves in a crisp clear “WES” cartouche, however there is a small nick in right side at the finger groove approx. 2” in front of rear sight assembly & there is some scoring to left side of buttstock comb as it appears that shooter may have been wearing glasses that scratched into wood. There are also some scores on left side of rifle, approx. 1” above rear sling swivel. None of these seem to detract from gun whatsoever. Buttplate assembly is fine checkered steel that retains better than 90% of orig blue. Floorplate assembly is in better than 95% condition with two small areas that appear to have been touched up, one being on very front edge of trigger guard & other being on trigger guard just behind floorplate. This rifle has a bright bore with just slightest bit of corrosion just in front of chamber but would appear to clean better. This is a very fine example of a first year National Match. 4-57806 BK36 (3,000-6,000)
