1912 MILLS COUNTERTOP OK GUM VENDOR. A rare and desirable machine, this is the countertop version with a side vendor on opposite side of handle. A more convenient model that could be moved about and placed in various locations rather than the larger cumbersome floor model version. Cast iron coin head requiring the player to insert coin and press lever, advancing the nickel into the coin acceptor. Front panel consisting of an elaborate cast iron panel with curved glass exposing the three reels. A large award card frame and a lower elaborate cast iron panel housing the payout cup. The rear of machine has a wooden door (some wood replacement) enclosing the mechanism and a cast iron lower door that accesses the cash box. Machine has been restored, both wood and castings, to its original beauty and is further enhanced by the elaborate reel strips of bells, oranges, spearmint leaves, etc. spelling out the word “GUM”. Some time ago the side vendor had been removed and the holes in the wood side had been plugged. Lacking tin cash box. SIZE: 17″ w x 16″ d x 25″ t. CONDITION: Reel strips and award card are high quality reproductions, rear of head casting and money box casting have not been replated, but are in original nickel. Small casting flaw/repair to quarter of gooseneck access panel. Fine working condition. 1-8216 JL (6,500-8,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Fall 2008 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
