*1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 1094435. 24” bbl dated “4-19”. Rifle is equipped with a Winchester A5 scope. Believe to be a facsimile or representative piece of what would be considered a sniper rifle. Scope, bases & rings are of the period, however it appears that the scope has been mounted in a couple of different places at one time or another. This could very well be an orig sniper rifle that has been modified through time. CONDITION: Receiver retains 95% arsenal finish with scope blocks mounted on front receiver rings but rear bridge has also been drilled & tapped and now has plug screws in it. Bolt is of later swept back type with 90% finish remaining. Bbl is in 98% arsenal finish with front bbl & middle band being the same. Front sight assembly is equipped with a sight hood. Rear sight assembly is orig & intact though not much use with scope mounted. Trigger guard assembly is 95% arsenal finish with some very minor dings under finish. Floorplate appears to be in 95% finish with some dry Cosmoline on it. Stock assembly is of period for a 1919 gun having two stock bolts & a faint but legible “DAL” inspection mark. Finger grooves are slightly worn, edges are reasonable although not sharp & there is some light scuffing to left side of stock just below wrist. Also, there is a filler on right side of stock just above rear stock bolt as to indicate some point in time this rifle or stock had a receiver sight mounted on it. Hand guard has been modified similar to that of a Marine sniper with scope block protruding off bbl through hand guard. This appears to be an assembled sniper rifle, not having been done by an arsenal, so we cannot guarantee its authenticity. 4-57786 (2,500-5,000)
