ARCADE CHECKER CAB. Possibly the finest known example to exist, this lifelike replica of the real Checker cab from the mid-late 1930s was presented in toy form by Arcade. Right down to the inscribed “Checker” on the windshield visor, the elaborately nickel plated grill with headlights and rubber tired wheels including the spare affixed to the rear of cab. Seldom does one have the chance to purchase such a rare and elusive toy, but almost never the opportunity to purchase both versions (see following lot). The body of the vehicle is enameled in a deep, vibrant orange with the roof, window frames, and chassis being black lacquered with silver highlighting to front and rear bumper and lettering on windshield visor. Perhaps the pinnacle of cast iron automotive toys? SIZE: 9″ l. PROVENANCE: From the collection of the late Larry Seiber of San Jose, CA. CONDITION: Very fine plus to near mint. Rubber tires are malleable and have a few flat spots. 1-9088 (15,000-20,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2009 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
