*1903 SPRINGFIELD LINE THROWING GUN. Cal. 30 smoothbore. SN 1307135. 24” bbl dated “6-29”. This is a good example of an 03 rifle modified by Navy to be a line throwing gun. It fits all criteria, bbl having been bored to smoothbore with all lands removed. Front sight has been removed, stock & hand guards have been cut down to middle band area, buttplate removed with a shoulder pad added. This appears to be an orig line throwing gun as modified by U.S. Navy & meets all criteria as per Brophy p. 151. This gun is not accompanied by crate or any of the accouterments. CONDITION: Receiver retains 90% of a refinished Parkerizing as does bolt assembly which has a later Remington striker on it. Outside of bbl shows 98% of a refinish with bore being smoothbore & slightly dark with some pitting but should scrub out to be a little better. Note that these guns were made from unserviceable rifles. Buttstock assembly has dings & mars throughout with no visible cartouche & is cracked & repaired behind trigger guard through wrist for some 3”. Hand guard assembly has a crack from behind canister bracket to sight collar & a couple of significant dents between canister assembly bracket & middle band. This would make a good addition to someone that has the accouterments & needs the gun, or as a good example of a line throwing gun by itself. 4-57789 BK37 (700-1,500)
