*1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE WITH RARE WINDER TUBE SIGHT. Cal. 30-06. SN 623093. 24” bbl dated “1-16”. This rifle is equipped with the Winder tube sight, designed by Maj. C.B. Winder, U.S. Patent #1-339-248. Purpose being so bbl of gun may be concealed by brush or sandbags whether in a trench or behind a tree. Sight would give view needed to commence firing. Reference Brophy, p. 484. CONDITION: Metal to rifle is in excellent condition with receiver retaining 95-97% of finish, as with bolt. Bbl shows 98% of orig blue as does center band. Front band however appears to be a later replacement as it is parkerized. Trigger guard assembly retains 90% orig blue with floorplate showing about 70%. Sgl bolt stock is in well used condition with some fairly heavy scuffing on left side, although you can still read the “CRG” cartouche. Fine checkered buttplate is in excellent condition. This is an extremely rare variation of the ’’03 that would be a fine addition to the collection of an advanced Springfield collector. 4-57780 (7,500-12,000)
