*SPRINGFIELD 1903. Cal. 30-06. SN 502345. Bbl 30”. This 1912 rifle appears to be in very good arsenal refurbished condition with exception of upper hand guard being changed. 1912 rifles are extremely rare in any condition as they were one of the main battle weapons of WWI. This rifle is equipped with what they call the “Hatcher Hole” which is a gas relief hole on the left side of the receiver which in later years became standard. CONDITION: Receiver retains 85–90% of arsenal refinish which is very difficult to detect with the exception of some very minor pitting under the blue. Bolt retains 80% of orig blue and is correct with this gun with some minor pitting on the bolt lug and under side of bolt handle. Bbl retains approximately 85% finish with 8/12 bbl date with an “A” underneath. Front bbl band is in excellent condition as refinished with proper “H” on bottom lug. Middle bbl band appears to be in fine condition retaining 95% of orig blue. Sight collar and rear sight assemble also retain 95% of blue with a couple of small nicks on right side of collar. Stock is the correct 1-bolt with reasonable sharp finger grooves with correct 1912 cartouche. Also noted a second cartouche slightly struck over with initials “WMH” with the bottom being illegible because it runs into the orig cartouche. Stock has some minor dings with one arsenal repair on the right side just below the sight collar and above the finger groove. Other than that, just some slight marring which does not detract from the presentation of this gun. Buttplate assembly is the proper checkered refinished to 90%. Upper hand guard is later post-war replacement with dings and nicks throughout. Although arsenal refurbished, survival rate of 1912 guns are very rare. Bore has light frosting but is very clear with well-defined rifling. 4-57817 (3,000-5,000)
