REMINGTON MODEL 1863 RIFLED MUSKET. NSN. 60 Cal. 40” part oct bbl. Marked “eagle / REMINGTON’S / ILION, N.Y. / L” on the front of the lockplate, “1865” at the rear. The top of the bbl is dated “1864”. Standard “V / P / eagle head” on the left quarter flat and “S.E.S” on the left flat. There are also “RPB” and “WHR” cartouches on the left flat of the stock along with “J.M” inspector marks. There is an “H.S” stamp on the bottom of the stock behind the triggerguard and “G” on the tail of the triggerguard. Remington made 40,000 of these muskets on contract at the end of the Civil War. CONDITION: Very good. Gray patina with spots of light pitting and surface rust. Stock has minor handling marks with sharp edges. Mechanically fine. 4-59177 FS684 (2,000-4,000)
