*ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL MODEL 1903. Cal. 30-06. SN 177887. 24” bbl dated “9-10”. This is a nice pleasing example of what appears to be an orig Rock Island 03 right at the transition period. Rifle retains one stock bolt with a high hump groove hand guard. CONDITION: Receiver retains 80-85% orig mottled finish with a “few” very minor pits down around stock line. Bolt retains 75-80% of its orig finish with some flaking on cocking piece. Bbl retains about 75-80% of orig blue with most wear being around front sight from sight cover being taken on & off and some slight rub marks over bbl date from what appears to be removing a little surface rust. Rear sight collar in sight assembly is in very good condition retaining better than 85% of finish with the most minor of oxidation. Knobs are deep dished checkered as they should be. Trigger guard assembly retains approx. 60% of blue with most wear being at bottom of trigger guard with some minor oxidation. Floorplate assembly retains about 75% of blue turning plum, again with minor oxidation. Checkered buttplate retains about 70% of blue with most wear being on top strap. Sgl bolt buttstock has a nice very legible “1910” cartouche. Finger grooves are very well defined although edges are worn. Stock has a few dents on left hand side that are not so large that they detract from rest of gun. Upper hand guard has some minor dings in it with one significant dent, approx. half way between bands. Bore is dark with very strong rifling. Overall a very nice WWI Rock Island that obviously saw some use but was not terribly abused. 4-57829 BK51 (1,500-3,000)
