HAPGOOD PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE. Cal. .45. 41″ oct bbl. Marked “J.HAPGOOD / SHREWSBURY / eagle head” on the top flat. Joah Hapgood worked in Shrewsbury from 1826 until 1864. The lock is marked “JAMES / GULCHER”. Has 2-pc patchbox and checkered wrist with stars between the lines. CONDITION: Rust brown patina with spots of crusty rust on the bbl, heavier at the breech. The drum and nipple are possibly replacements but are the proper style and size. The wood is fine except along the comb which is badly chipped due to the dropping of the gun. The lock is fine.
