AFTER FELIX OCTAVIOUS CARR DARLEY (American, 1822-1888) MARCH TO THE SEA. Outstanding steel engraving of Sherman’s army destroying everything in its path on his way to the sea. Pencil signed lower left “F O C Darley” and signed by the engraver A.H. Ritchie and dated 1868 by L. Stebbins. Housed in a magnificent period frame with gesso leaf and berry design having a wide inside panel of burl wood with gilt incised carving in the corners and interior gilt liner with original thick matte.
