*ROCK ISLAND MODEL 1903 RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 61890. 24” bbl dated “4-05”. This is a very nice pleasing orig 03 Rock Island with pretty much all of its condition. Some minor flaking to receiver but other than that it shows excellent. CONDITION: Receiver retains 70-75% of its mottled blue with some flaking. Magazine cut-off retains about 10% of faded case colors. Bolt retains about 70% of its blue with majority of wear being on handle. Bbl shows 90% of its orig blue with some flaking on sight cover. Front band shows approx. 80% of its finish with some wear being from removing oxidation. Middle band shows 90% orig blue with some very, very minor pitting. Rear sight sleeve & base show better than 95% orig blue with sight leaf & dished checkered knobs showing approx. 85%. Trigger guard & floorplate show about 60% of blue having been cleaned. Buttplate shows approx. 60% of blue with some spotting. The buttstock which has no crossbolts & no relief shows in excellent condition with sharp edges on finger grooves & only a few very light scattered dings throughout. It has a “1908” cartouche. Flat top no groove hand guard shows excellent with some minor marks & one small gouge approx. 1-1/2” long on left side just in front of middle band. Bore shows moderately bright with slightest bit of oxidation. All in all an extremely nice example of an early Rock Island 03 rifle. 4-57828 BK53 (2,000-4,000)
