THOMAS SULLY (American, 1783-1872) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG WOMAN. Oil on canvas half portrait shows a young woman wearing a dark purple formal dress having a gold and amethyst brooch. Bare shoulder dress with her head slightly cocked at an angle and she has black curly hair with a hair pin. Right side with a green curtain swag. There appears to be red initials below her dress but can not be deciphered. Housed in a fine gilt gesso decorated frame with liner. Back stretcher has writing “Col Mellow”. SIZE: 30” x 25”. CONDITION: Relined with some inpainting and restoration. Very good. 9-72827 LG (8,000-12,000)
