NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL PINE SCHOOLMASTER’S DESK. First quarter 19th century. The standing desk of square form with three-quarter splashguard, having a hinged sloping lid within picture frame molding opening to a well, the apron fitted with single drawer, the whole raised on square legs joined by a box stretcher. SIZE: Working surface: 44″ h. 50″ overall h. x 21″ w. x 20-3/4″ d. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection. Acquired from Robert Hall, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine in the 1950/60’s by the present owner’s parents. CONDITION: Old scrubbed cleaned surfaces, retaining remnants of original red wash.
