GEORGE M. HATHAWAY (American, 1852-1903) TWO WORKS: PORTLAND HEADLIGHT & “BREAKWATER LIGHT, PORTLAND HARBOR, MAINE”. 1) Oil on artist board coastal scene shows the tall lighthouse with connected buildings atop the grass covered cliff shoreline overlooking green water with two sails. Signed lower left. Housed in a period gilt wood frame. 2) Oil on artist board shows the granite curving breakwater with small red lighthouse and connected building in Portland Harbor. A three-mast schooner is moored to left side and a two-mast schooner sails out of the harbor. Housed in a modern gesso decorated period style frame. Titled on reverse and signed lower right. SIZE: 1) 6″ x 10″. 2) 8-1/2″ x 14″. CONDITION: 1) Several paint chips, otherwise good. 2) In need of cleaning, three scratches to right quadrant. 9-99937 (1,500-2,500)
