WWI ERA TRENCH TELESCOPE.

This most unusual device measures about 29″ overall. Pistol grip, iron crescent buttplate, and brass and aluminum telescope. The trigger releases a catch on the muzzle of the 7″ bbl which either releases a flare or rocket, possibly. The right side of receiver is calibrated from 0-2100 (yards or meters?). There are no other markings found on this device whose exact function is unknown, but is similar to known range finding trench telescopes. Discussion with several military experts state it is most likely German. This well made device is well fit and most likely had another attachment now missing, which would have explained what this unknown device actually did. CONDITION: Good to very good overall. Several screws are rusted and adjustment knob on bottom binds. Device was not taken apart to try to ascertain function. 53181-1 JS (500-800) – Lot 3429
