DESIRABLE WINCHESTER 1886 TAKEDOWN RIFLE.

SN 88092. Cal. .40-65. 26″ full oct bbl with blade front and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Blue frame with 2pc walnut stocks with full mag and crescent butt. Case color hammer and lever and nitre blue loading gate. Mfg in 1885 by SN. The .40-65 was a very desired cartridge of its day and noted for its accuracy and velocity. Equally desirable is the fact that a blue finished receiver was typically a special order feature during this time frame. This was probably of the most practical of all Winchester 1886 rifles from medium to moderately large game and are typically found in well-used condition. CONDITION: Fine overall with an abundance of factory blue finish remaining on bbl and mag. The blue finished receiver is equally as fine with typical finish loss at forward receiver ring and balance point of bottom receiver. The attractive 2pc walnut stocks remain in very fine condition with most all factory varnish remaining. Numerous small bruises and abrasions are evident, however just lend to the history of this rifle. The case colors on lever and crescent butt are evident but have somewhat silvered with age and use, while the hammer retains most all of its vivid case colors. This is a fine overall condition gun with a strong bore that shows very slight darkness in the grooves of the rifling. The action is tight and all mechanics function properly. 53157-2 TDW (4,000-6,000) – Lot 1440
