*HUMONGOUS FOUR BORE FARQUHARSON TYPE DROPPING BLOCK SINGLE SHOT RIFLE BY CLAYTON NELSON, CUSTOM GUN MAKER, WITH DIES AND MOLD.

NSN. Cal. 4 bore. This huge rifle weighs a little bit north of 22 pounds, and was built by a gunsmith known for undertaking some very unusual projects. Despite its large size it is nicely scaled and has 27-1/2″ slightly tapered round bbl, mounted with 1″ wide checkered quarter rib and matching front base holding large ivory bead front sight. One standing four folding leaf express rear sight is in quarter rib. Top of bbl is marked “CLAYTON N. NELSON CUSTOM RIFLEMAKER”. Large 3-3/4″ long, 4″ high, 2″ wide Farquharson type action is blued and nicely filed, and has integral square as transition to quarter rib on top. Under lever with latch which engages trigger guard bow, is color case hardened. Action features traditional tang safety. Dense, very nicely marbled and somewhat stump figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over Silver type pad, and is traditionally styled with point pattern checkering at grip, rounded right hand cheekpiece, and nicely shaped side panels. Matching forend with ebony tip attaches to bbl with two screws through lozenge shaped escutcheons. Drop at heel: approx 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 2-1/8″. Cast: neutral. Weight: 22 lbs. 3 oz. LOP: 14-1/2″. Included with rifle are some custom made loading dies, bullet sizer, and shell holder, along with JRM marked aluminum bullet mold casting a .997 diameter conical bullet weighing 1950 grains. Also included are four fired brass cartridges. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all orig finishes on wood and metal, with some handling marks, and a few nicks.
