GROUP OF 9 VICTORIAN WALKING STICKS, INCLUDING 2 FINE WHALING CANES.

1) 36″ overall showing clench fist and bar made from whale ivory with octagonal to fluted to round whale bone shaft. Silver eyelet holes and silver band. 2) 33″ overall 1-1/2″ ivory with round baleen inset. Shaft is octagonal cross-hatched to smooth round whale bone, small baleen insets at top of bone shaft (one small inset is missing). 3) 35″ light weight, possibly bamboo shaft with a 7/8″ high gold cap engraved on top. “MAYOR SLEEPER / FROM / HIS ASSOCIATES ON THE / COMMITTEE ON STREETS 1858”. John S. Sleeper was Mayor Roxbury, Massachusetts. 4)-9) Typical Victorian sticks with hard rubber or wooden shafts, in varying lengths and diameters, all with heavy gold plated ornate tops, with either monograms or presentations which can be seen in photographs. The dated presentations range from 1871-1892, all are in beautiful condition retaining most of their orig gilding. PROVENANCE: Daryl Middlebrook collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall.
