*EXCEEDINGLY RARE, MOST LIKELY UNIQUE, 10 GAUGE 36″ STEEL BARRELED PARKER “CHE” SHOTGUN.SN 191348. (ca 1920) Cal. 10 ga. 3-1/2″ Chambers. 3 Frame. 36″ Bbls are marked “PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. ACME STEEL” on matted game rib, set with two ivory beads. Bbl flats and lumps are stamped with all correct markings. Robust action has all correct patent and grade markings on water table, and features automatic safety and nickel-plated double triggers. Action is engraved in “C” style with near full coverage scroll within geometric borders surrounding single dogs on sides. “PARKER BROS” is behind dog scenes. Trigger plate has vignette of elk with mountains in background. Nicely figured and streaked European walnut Parker capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-3/4″ over leather faced white line pad. Stock is finished in typical “C” fashion with checkered side panels, drop points, and fancy pattern checkering which wraps over grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has typical release and patent date on iron. Bore diameter: left -.780, right – .782. Bore restrictions: left – .038 (full), right – .035 (full). Wall thickness: left – .052, right – .052. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-11/16″. Cast: neutral. Weight: 10 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 13-3/4″. Gun matches PARKER GUN SERIALIZATION AND IDENTIFICATION ledger. THE PARKER STORY does not list any steel bbl 10 bores with 36″ bbls, but does indicate a total of 9 ten bores made with Acme steel, most with 30″ or 32″ bbls. PROVENANCE: Daryl Middlebrook collection. CONDITION: Very fine, as restored. Bbls retain nearly all of a well done rust blue. Action has cyanide colors taken back to around 60%. Stocks refinished over some deep marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are fine, lightly frosted, with a couple of areas of minor pitting in right bbl. Action is tight. Bbls are on face.
