EXCEPTIONAL CASED HIGH GRADE 1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER’S MILITIA SWORD.

This sword is in “like new” condition in purple silk lined case. Bright steel scabbard with pierced raised relief gilded mounts. Fluted, engraved silver handle with gilded flat wire. Eagle on large languette is in raised relief holding riband. Knuckle bow is decorated with zigzag arrows taken from Roman or Napoleonic themes. This is about as fancy and mint a late 19th-earl 20th century militia staff sword can be. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Extremely fine overall. 30-1/2″ blade retains virtually all of its luster, with about a 1/2″ scratched area below gold highlighted etched panels. Full firm marks “M C LILLEY, COLUMBUS, OHIO”. Steel scabbard is polished bright with the most minor cosmetic blemishes. Gold plated relief cut-out mounts, gold plated hilt and pommel and languettes retain virtually all their bright orig gold. Casing is heavily scuffed, but otherwise sound and solid with some light soiling and wear to cradle inside case. Key to casing is missing. 53094-159 JS (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2294
