VERY FINE AND SCARCE MARTIAL 2ND MODEL SCHOFIELD SMITH & WESSON SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER.SN 5237. Cal. 45. Standard configuration with 7″ keyhole shaped bbl with distinctive groove cut down top of bbl rib. 2-line Smith & Wesson and patents on left side of housing; right side of housing “SCHOFIELD’S PAT. APR. 22D 1873”. 2-pc grips contain crisp inspector’s cartouches with “1876” stamped below inspector’s cartouche on left grip. Bottom of grip strap is surcharged “US”. This is a beautiful survivor with fine aesthetics for a gun that saw typical, extremely hard service. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine overall. Bbl retains about 30% thinning bright blue finish with balance plum/blue. Frame retains about 90% bright blue finish. Grip straps retain about 10% blue finish with balance plum/grey. Cyl retains about 50% thinning blue with balance plum/grey. Hammer and trigger guard are smooth and overall silver/grey with strong areas of case colors. Grips are sound and well fit with bright inspector cartouches and date. Light edge wear with staining. Mechanics are crisp with bright shiny bore. 53091-96 JS (10,000-12,500) – Lot 2128
