RARE AND VERY FINE FACTORY STOCKED SMITH & WESSON 2ND MODEL AMERICAN REVOLVER.SN 27338. Cal. 44. Standard configuration. Nickel finish, 8″ bbl keyhole bbl with 1-line Smith & Wesson address. Cut by factory for shoulder stock with internal assembly numbers “508” on gun and “206”. Stock fits gun well. According to Supica & Nahas, Standard Catalog of Smith of Wesson, 2006, about 600 stocks were made for 2nd Model American and 1st Model Russian models and were interchangeable. Few fine examples such as this are extant. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine overall. Gun and stock retain over 95% orig nickel with minor freckling and a few chips to nickel with dark iron patina on bbl. Grips on gun retain most of an old varnish finish as does buttstock with some staining and minor cosmetic blemishes.
