SPECTACULAR HOGGSON ENGRAVED AND SILVER PLATED HENRY RIFLE.

SN 7008. Cal. 44RF Henry. Beautiful late Henry rifle with 24-1/4″ oct bbl that has integral magazine tube, late style, square back nickel silver front sight and 900 yard Henry ladder rear sight with slide stop screw. Top flat of the bbl has the later large font 2-line Henry’s Patent date and the New Haven Arms Co address. Mounted with very nicely figured, uncheckered American walnut with fine factory finish. Left side of buttstock has a factory sling swivel with corresponding sling loop in the left gullet of the bbl. Receiver is silver plated and engraved by Samuel Hoggson with his trademark deer leaping a rail fence on the left sideplate surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns that have pearled background. Right side of the receiver and sideplate, both front side panels, rear edges of the receiver, top 3 flats of the receiver and buttplate tang are engraved to match. Number on stock matches buttplate and lower left side tang “7008” same as SN. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine. Oct bbl retains 20-30% blue in protected areas with balance being light to dark patina. Edges are sharp, address is clear with minor dings anywhere on bbl. Receiver retains 85% of plating on left side with 85-90% on right side. Lower tang area retains 90-95% of the silver plating. Bottom of stock has multi impressions with a few scratches and no missing wood or chips present. Hammer and lever are dark patina color with dark case colors on back side of hammer with balance being patina; lever has mostly a dark patina color. Rifle cycles correctly. Bore with strong rifling and some minor pitting. Mechanics are crisp. 53091-6 MS (80,000-100,000) – Lot 2006
