FINEST KNOWN 100 CARTRIDGE HENRY “BLACK BOX” CARTRIDGE PACK.No doubt this is the finest example of the earliest Henry rifle cartridge box of which only a handful of examples are known. Almost 40 years ago, Ray Bentley bought Val Forgett’s entire Winchester cartridge collection to just get this box. He displayed it often with his Henry’s and it was coveted by every cartridge collector who saw it. The box is completely full of the earliest “pointed round” tip projectiles with the softly defined depression around the raised “H” head marks. If you want the greatest Henry box of ammunition known, this is it. PROVENANCE: The Val Forgett Collection; the spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world, about 1979. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Light staining to lid, one corner cracked. Box retains most of its black (very dark purple) color and gold decorated design with just minor scuffing as can be seen in photos. Cartridges are all in excellent orig condition as originally stacked in box. 53091-268 JS (25,000-35,000) – Lot 2089
