FRENCH 1908 SOLID SILVER MARKSMAN TROPHY ON WOOD PLINTH.19″ tall including plinth; trophy is 14″ attached to plinth. Five tier sterling cup has a mix of repousse decoration with a large vignette of a target superimposed over crossed rifles with a floral wreath. Two-handled cup has French presentation which can be read in photographs, which has six plaques dating from 1908-1913, giving award to different marksmen from different companies, different battalions over the years. The cup originally was a prize offered by Lt. Colonel A. Chiry of his regiment. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Bowl still retains 80% of its orig thinning gilt. Silver patina, old cleaning. Maker mark on base “FAIT A MOLENBEEK ST. JEAN J. DE MAYER 1908 800”. 53091-235 JS (3,000-5,000) – Lot 2150
