VERY FINE WINCHESTER MODEL 1895 FLATSIDE MUSKET WITH FACTORY WHITE SHEET.

SN 808. Cal. 30-40. Comes equipped with 28″ bbl with two bbl bands, and military sights. Full length forearm and stock of straight grained American walnut. Left side of stock at wrist has plaque marked “BEQUEST OF MAJOR HENRY E. SMITH”. Blued flat-sided receiver with blued buttplate, sling swivels mounted and in place. Case colored hammer, blued lever and blued trigger. No proof marks. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Records Office research sheet confirming configuration and shipped August 27, 1897. A brief Google search found a Major Henry E. Smith as an officer in the Society of Veterans of Indian Wars of the United States, a commemorative group dedicated to preserving the history of the conflict, founded in Philadelphia, 1896. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very Fine. Round bbl retains 85-90% blued, slightly toning at chamber end of bbl. Bbl bands retain 85-90% blue. Forearm cap would be 90-95% blue. Receiver retains about 95% original blue finish with light scratch marks on the left side to indicate that it was cleaned. Box magazine on left side also with some scratches on lower part of box magazine but retains 80-85% blue. Right side is 90% orig blue with no scratch marks. Lever turning dark patina. Hammer with dark case colors with a slight drag line that has 85-90% case colors remaining. Buttplate 60% orig blue, balance turning to a patina color. Bore bright and shiny.
