Please Note: The Cody Firearms Records Office Research sheet does not list Checkered Pistol Grip Stock as is now observed on the rifle. All indications are that the gun was restocked by the Winchester factory, though no Repair and Return order is listed.

*IMPRESSIVE WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 TAKEDOWN RIFLE IN 38-40.

SN 310662. Cal 38-40. 24-3/8″ bbl. Full octagon, full magazine with takedown lever and collar. Comes standard with German silver blade front sight, with clover leaf type rear bbl sight with serrated edges. It is proofed marked in front of the 38 W.C.F. This would be correct for the time period in which the gun was made. Receiver is blued, case colored hammer and lever with a blued trigger. Rifle comes equipped with 1-X deluxe grade stock marked “2881” on upper tang and “2881” on back of stock with toe of buttplate marked with same numbers. Comes equipped with “H” style checkering pattern both on stock on forearm. Also on lower tang another set of numbers that read “20778” and two “x”‘s on bottom tang. Numbers on bottom tang have been crossed out indicating that it may have been restocked. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Records Office Research sheet confirming the configuration and shipped May 29, 1907. No Repair and Return order listed. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine. Octagon bbl retains 96-97% orig blue with a few scratches about 5” from front sight on left flat. Light on edges of bbl, rear sight has 98% blue. Take down mag tube is 95-96% orig blue with mag guide ring between 90-95% blue. Forearm cap 94-95% blue. Take down collar also retains 96-96% orig blue. Blued receiver has 98% orig blue, that would indicate not refinished, with buffing marks on receiver still in place. Right side of receiver with a few light surface scratches on bottom of receiver next to stock. Loading gate retain 95% of niter blue. All screw heads look to be unturned and in very fine condition with 98% orig case color remaining on screw heads. Case colored hammer has dark colors with a drag line but retains 96-97% orig case colors. Lever is 96-97% orig case colors, bright if not vivid on sides. Overall 96-97% orig case colors remain. Left side of stock has light surface scratches, checkering looks very fine with a few bruise marks. Wood to metal fit is very fine with no slivers missing and no cracks in stock. Right side with few impressions, few surface scratches. No slivers of wood missing. Overall condition of right side of stock is fine to very fine. Forearm overall has very few impressions or scratches with no wood missing. Buttplate retains 85-90% orig case color and fits the stock very fine. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanics are fine, cycles properly. Overall a very fine 1892 deluxe that would be hard to upgrade on. 53091-190 MS (15,000-20,000) C&R – Lot 2064
