OUTSTANDING ANTIQUE “BIG FIFTY” WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 RIFLE IN 50 CAL EXPRESS.SN 108776. Cal. .50 EX. 26″ bbl. Rnd bbl with address reading “MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.” with Express rear bbl sight with beaded front sight (bead missing). Left and right side blued receiver with nitre blue loading gate. Lower tang does not have any assembly line numbers attached to it, upper channel of stock and buttplate have a stamp “20”. Forend cap is blued and comes equipped with half-mag. Shotgun buttplate is metal and marked with assembly line number. Hammer and lever are case colored and all screws appear to be case colored as well. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Excellent. Rnd bbl retains 95% blue with a few scattered surface rust spots near rear sight; may clean up. Both sides of receiver retains a good 98% blue. Top of receiver has one minute spot that has patinated. Case colored hammer retains 98% of case color with no dragged lines. Lever also retains 95-96% case color with no fading. Buttplate is blue and retains a good 90-05% blue, only wear is evident on heel of buttplate. Finish on stock has very few impressions and retains 98% of its orig finish overall. Forearm has several compression marks, very few impressions or scratches are evident on either side of forearm near forearm cap. Wood to metal fit on stock is very fine with no chips or splinters of wood missing. There are no cracks evident on the upper or lower tang. Screw heads are very fine with most of case color finish remaining. Rifle cycles properly. Brilliant shiny bore. Difficult to find these “Big Fifty’s” to begin with, with many being made after 1898. 53091-178 MS (30,000-40,000) – Lot 2050
