SPECTACULAR WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 DELUXE FACTORY ENGRAVED AND INSCRIBED RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER.

SN 88046. Cal. 38-56. 24″ full oct bbl. Full magazine. Sporting sights. Left receiver beautifully engraved in $6 No. 10 style engraving with intricate buck and doe scene in oval vignette and inscribed “Frank H. Hiscock / Syracuse New York” in a panel above, all framed in delicate and well-executed scrollwork. Right side of receiver is a classic vignette of a low-tailed dog on point with scroll highlights. Appended metal is engraved with similar fine scroll embellishments. Superb full fancy feathercrotch walnut pistol grip stocks with style H checkering and piano finish is stamped “289” on bottom tang, along with “XXX” grade of wood. Top channel of stock also marked with “289”. Toe of buttplate has the same numbers as stock. Pistol grip retains black ebony insert correct for period of manufacture. Accompanied by Winchester Factory Letter which confirms special order features incl remarks: Engraved $6-“Frank H. Hiscock,Syracuse New York” and shipped March 26, 1894. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Extremely fine overall condition. Bbl retains 98-99% blue, as does magazine. Case colored forearm cap retains 90-95% bright case colors. Receiver retains 98% vivid case colors. Loading gate retains 96-97% bright nitre blue. Hammer retains 98% bright case colors with small drag line. Lever has 98% case colors, slightly faded on bottom, but both sides of retain vivid case colors. Top of buttplate also sports 90% bright case colors on top of tang with the balance of back at 65-75% strong case colors. Fancy American walnut stock features piano finish has very few marks or impressions. Balance of finish on left side is 98%. Bottom of stock with very few impressions retaining 98% finish. 96-97% finish remains on forearm with a few hard nicks between receiver and checkering pattern. Breech bolt retains 99% blue. All screw heads appear to be untouched and retain majority of case colored finish. Bright shiny bore with strong rifling. Mechanics are fine. Rifle cycles correctly.
