SPECTACULAR SILVER PLATED HOGGSON ENGRAVED VOLCANIC RIFLE WITH THE VERY RARE AND DESIRABLE 25 INCH BARREL AND IN SUPERB CONDITION.

SN 298. Cal. 41. 25″ bbl with 2-line address. Factory engraved silver plated receiver with rare checkered stock. All screws are numbered to gun. Buttplate is engraved en suite. All numbers match. Cartridge plunger in magazine is missing. This one in particular has been in the home of Ray Bentley for many years. The 25″ barrel rifle is the rarest and most desirable Volcanic configuration. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine. Very fine finish on stock with strong checkering. Blue on bbl is very fine. Bore will clean to fine condition. Orig case colors on hammer and lever are mostly muted. Finish on buttplate is fine to very fine. A wonderfully preserved Volcanic Arms Company with very little use and has been well preserved. Mechanics are fine and rifle cycles without any problem. The most difficult of all Volcanic rifles is the long 25″ variation, the 16″ being most commonly encountered frequently in fine condition. The 25″ barrel rifles when they appear are almost always well used with no original finish and undersized wood. Number 298 is the very finest of these rarities Ray Bentley could find in his fifty year quest for the best conditioned Winchesters. It is unlikely that a better Volcanic in this barrel length will come to market in the next fifty years. 53091-1 MS (40,000-60,000) – Lot 2002
