*SCARCE AND DESIRABLE BOSS ROUND BODY TRUE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME SHOTGUN WITH CASE (ONE OF A THREE GUN COMPOSED SET).

SN 8261. (ca 1933) Cal. 12 ga. 2-5/8″ Chambers. 27″ Chopper lump bbls are engraved “Boss & Co 41, Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London, W. Made in England” on narrow swamped game rib. Rear portion of rib is gold inlaid “1” which also appears on top lever and forend tip. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers and “2-5/8″. Case hardened sidelock action with rounded bar and lockplates, is fitted with Boss’s self-opening assist spring system with extra heavy cocking lever springs, easing the opening of fired gun. Action also features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), disc set strikers, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action and locks are engraved in Boss house style with well cut small scroll and 17 rose bouquets, as finely rendered by Jack Sumner. Blued trigger guard with single raised bead is scroll engraved on bow, and has SN in relief on tang. Dramatically marbled, and finely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-5/8″ over Silver type pad over 1/4″ hard rubber spacer. Well cut point pattern checkering is at grip, and a vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter Boss ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.732, right – .731. Bore restrictions: left – .014 (mod), right – .009 (IC). Wall thickness: left – .029, right – .029. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Cast: neutral. Weight: 6 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 15-5/8”. Fine quality oak and brown leather three gun case with brass corners and round central medallion, as well as tan leather trimmed brown canvas outer cover, is lined in burgundy cloth. Case contains a 2-pc walnut and brass cleaning rod, and a square oil bottle. CONDITION: Very fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain over 95% of a “best” London re-black with a few slight marks. Action retains approx 30 – 40% orig color thinning and silvering on bottom and on fences. Lockplates retain over 80% of their orig color. Orig blue of top lever is silvered on thumbpiece. Trigger guard retains nearly all of its restored blue. Stocks retain nearly all of a renewed hand rubbed oil finish, with a number of subsequent marks. There are some lifted and repaired areas of wood behind lockplates. Checkering somewhat worn, and has not been re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Bbls are on face.
