RARE 2ND CONTRACT 1847 WALKER REPLACEMENT “FLUCK” MODEL DRAGOON REVOLVER WITH PERIOD SLIM JIM HOLSTER.

SN 2686. Cal. 44. 7-1/2″ bbl, blue and case color finish, 1-pc straight grain American walnut grip. Bbl lug shows 1-line New York address that reads from the right side. SN is stamped on bbl lug, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cyl. Last 3-digits of SN are stamped on arbor. Wedge is not marked. Last 3-digits of SN are stamped on inside front face of grip. Assembly number “155” is stamped on lever and on bottom of bbl opposite lever. A “P” is found on bow of trigger guard and on apron of backstrap. “COLT’S PATENT / US” is struck on left side over the forward trigger guard bow. Shadow of hand channel is visible on left side of frame behind trigger screw. Cyl is rolled with a scene of Texas Rangers fighting Indians. Cyl shows a correct compression ring around rear periphery. Cyl shows remnants of sgl safety pin in line with SN. Hammer face shows a rnd safety pin hole that has been slightly battered out. Trigger guard is of wide Walker profile type. SNs are stamped with small dies from Walker period. SN on trigger guard is split on both sides of screw. A rear sight is mounted into bbl lug; hammer rear sight has been widened. Sam Colt received a 2nd contract from the US government in November 1847 for 1,000 revolvers. He allocated SNs 2001-3000 for this contract. These revolvers were delivered beginning in early 1848, final deliveries were made by June 1848. These revolvers saw hard service in the hands of the US 2nd Dragoons on the trail to the gold fields of California. Many of these revolvers were absconded with by soldiers once they reached the gold fields. One was issued to William Tecumseh Sherman. Accompanied by a period Slim Jim holster which bears the impression of this revolver and the added rear sight on bbl. CONDITION: Very good for this model. Bbl shows a deep grey/brown patina overall. Markings are sharp. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Frame shows crusty mottled brown patina with some bright spots overall. Colt’s patent mark is legible. Trigger screw is replacement. Bolt screw has been replaced by a cut nail. Trigger guard and backstrap show a deep mustard yellow patina with staining overall. Numbers are clear. Cyl shows remnants of cyl scene and Colt’s patent and model mark. Compression ridge is evident. Grip is intact and has proper angled top; SN is legible. Grip has proper swept profile. Grip butt screw is replacement. Mechanics are fine. Holster is very good. Toe is broken. Side stitching is intact. Toe is held in place by piece of scotch tape. Black finish is crazed and frayed at throat. Here’s your chance to own one of the rarest Colt percussion revolvers extant outside of the Colt Walker model that saw hard use on the American frontier and has survived in very remarkable condition. 53044-4 TEP (9,500-12,500) – Lot 3002
