FINE AND RARE OTTOMAN GOLD AND SILVER MOUNTED BLUNDERBUSS CIRCA 1800 MADE FOR OTTOMAN PALACE GUARDS.

NSN. Cal. 1.25. This beautiful and elegant blunderbuss is from a known series of similar arms thought to have been made for Ottoman palace guards. 30″ overall with 19-1/4″ swamped bbl flaring to 1-1/4″ at muzzle. About 60% of surface of bbl is inlaid with gold arabesques as is lock, cock and battery. Stock is profusely inset with silver wire and gilded brass & silver insets over most of its length as seen in photos. The brass mounts are relief cast with gilt. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Steel is an overall gray patina with virtually all of gold insets intact. Insets and stock are 98% intact with discernible loss of two narrow 4″ silver strips framing buttplate. Top of buttplate comb has 2-1/2″ contemporary silver arabesque which is not en suite with the rest of decoration. Stock is sound with one small noticeable hairline and a few small reductions.
