RARE PAIR OF CONTINENTAL DOUBLE BARREL HOWDAH PERCUSSION PISTOLS.SN 1185/1185. Cal. 38 bore. 12″ overall, 6-1/2″ bbls with central rib. Guns are unmarked with exception of initials “HL” on sides of bbl and other initials and SNs internally. Matching SNs are found inside trigger bows and bottom of bbls. Bbls originally had striped Damascus design which is only partially discernible now. Stocks are checkered with scallop shell shaped hinged buttcaps. Iron mounted with threaded iron ramrods. Guns are nicely but sparely engraved. This is an interesting pair of Howdah Style pistols that present quite nicely in a very old custom carrying case. CONDITION: Very good overall. Traces of finish on bbls and some case color found on hammers, especially on one gun. Stocks are sound with sharp edges. Accompanying casing is of later manufacture, but displays guns well along with a single cavity ball mold. Case has large crack in lid and could use a little wood restoration. Lock is missing escutcheon. The two hook and eye closures are still functional. Mechanics are fine with bright clean bores. 52924-10 JS (1,500-2,500) – Lot 1156 Click here to view provenance
