*RARE HAENEL/ ROTH MODEL M1899 SELF-LOADING SPORTING RIFLE.

SN 53. (found on bolt, carrier, and floorplate) Cal. 8.15 x 46 (G. Roth case no 618) ?. 22-1/2″ Half octagon, half round bbl, with interesting long recoil self-loading action is engraved “C. G. Haenel, Suhl” “System G. Roth. D. R. Patent No 116061 & 118602″ on left side of main spring housing. Top of action is mounted with disassembly pivot at rear, and integral bosses dovetailed through for claw scope mounts. (In a quick Google search, this is the only Roth found with this feature.) Front boss also holds one standing, one folding leaf rear sight. Cartridges are loaded through hinged floorplate giving access to magazine box. There is a toggle safety at rear of action at top of grip. Steel trigger guard extends to horn grip cap. Floorplate and bottom of action, as well as trigger guard, are nicely scroll engraved. Somewhat figured European walnut stock with right hand shadow line cheekpiece and nicely carved horn tip, measures 14” over composition buttplate marked “BISHOP”. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refinished. Metal parts retain nearly all of what appears to be their orig blue, with some scattered spotting and thinning. Stock retains nearly all of an old oil refinish, showing overall sanding marks under finish. Bore is fine, somewhat dark. Action appears to function well. 52873-1 MGM (5,000-8,000) C&R – Lot 1163
