US MODEL 1840 FOOT INFANTRY OFFICER’S SWORD WITH GOLD BLADE AND ENGRAVED BRASS SCABBARD.

This is a rare American pattern in relatively fine condition, full firm marked on 31″ blade “W. H. HORSTMANN / & SONS / PHILADELPHIA”. Blade has gold background with raised relief patriotic motifs. Brass scabbard is florally engraved with an American eagle on shield between ring mounts. CONDITION: Very good overall. Blade retains virtually all of its orig polish and most of its orig gold highlights, though fading. Scabbard and hilt retain 20%+ gold plating with balance mottled, brass patina. Ribbed copper grip retains about half its silver plate with has patinaed black. 52865-61 JS (800-1,200) – Lot 3101
