ANTEBELLUM CRUCIFORM MILITIA SWORD, ORNATE CROSS GUARD WITH CENTRAL RAISED RELIEF EAGLE MOTIF.Unusual pattern of Mexican War era militia sword with 31″ double-edged blade, with etched American motifs and most unusual heavy relief cast 6″ cross guard with large rectangular central block with raised relief American eagle and shield. Sword exhibits carved bone grip, knights head pommel, double chain knuckle bow, solid brass engraved scabbard with sword rings and frog button. CONDITION: Very good overall. Blade is overall grey with some orig luster. Hilt and scabbard retain about 30% orig gold plate. Scabbard has several scattered dents.
