RARE AMERICAN “E. T. WEAVER” SIGNED AMERICAN SILVER HILT EAGLE POMMEL SWORD WITH IVORY GRIP, CIRCA 1810.

This is a fine example of a classic Philadelphia silver hilted eagle pommel sword with classic Philadelphia extended beak head. Dan Hartszler shows a very similar example on pg 233 in his 2000 text Silver Mounted Swords..Silver Hilts Through the Golden Age Blue and gold decorated 29″ blade with panoply of arms, Federal eagle with banner reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and Liberty cap. Rectangular cartouche found on bottom of stirrup hilt “E T WEAVER”. Emmor T. Weaver (1786-1860) worked in the early 19th century and an early advertisement in Westchester, Pennsylvania newspaper is shown in provenance where he advertises as a silversmith and sword mounter. Marine ivory grip is well patinaed with one carved panel, light engraving found on face of throat. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Blade retains much of its orig polish and luster though blue and gold panels are stained and pitted, retaining maybe 30% bright blue and about 60% gold. Sword still retains its protective cloth washer. Silver hilt, pommel and scabbard mounts are smooth and sound with slight denting and dark patina. Scabbard body is sound and solid retaining much of its orig finish. Ivory grip is smooth with hand worn patina, with several light hairlines.
