1895 PRESENTATION HIGH GRADE STAFF OFFICER’S SWORD TO BRIG. GENERAL HUNTER C. WHITE, ADJUTANT GENERAL STATE OF RHODE ISLAND.

This highest grade Model 1860 staff and field officer’s sword has mother-of-pearl carved slab grips. Elaborately decorated branched guard and knuckle bow, languette with applied relief silver eagle and folding languette with a stippled “US” medallion. Gilded mounts are also elaborately cast and chased on a bright steel scabbard. The 30-1/2″ blade is “like new” with central presentation etched “BRIG GEN’L HUNTER C. WHITE” with gold highlights and other etched patriotic panels. CONDITION: Extremely fine overall. Sword looks like the day it was presented, retaining virtually all of its orig gilt and bright steel. Silver applied eagle has areas of dark patina. Blade retains 98% of its orig gold and virtually all its orig luster. Extremely fine grip and wrap with one small natural inherent flaw in mother-of-pearl. Sword still retains gold bullion sword knot. 52865-29 JS (3,000-5,000) – Lot 3074
