FINE AMERICAN CIRCA 1830 EAGLE HEAD MILITIA SWORD.

This is about as fine an example of an “as found” classic “5-ball” eagle head militia sword you will find with solid scabbard, 28″ blue and gold blade, carved fluted bone grip. This is a commonly found sword often seen in portraits of militia men in the Antebellum period, but such nice examples are hard to find. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Blade retains much of its orig polish with staining and most of its orig blue and gold etched patinaed black. Leather scabbard body is sound and solid with crazing and craquelure, retaining most of its orig black finish 52865-28 JS (800-1,200) – Lot 3095
